Getting started
Log in to WordPress, then use the dashboard shortcuts for the most common tasks: editing the homepage, adding news, adding campaigns, and opening UFFC Settings.
Most website pages are edited from Pages. News, Campaigns and We Remember stories are edited from their own menu items in the left-hand WordPress menu.
Homepage
- Go to Pages → Home.
- Edit the tabs inside Homepage Content.
- Use the Hero tab for the main image/video, headline, text and buttons.
- Use the Demands and Join the Movement repeaters to add, remove or reorder items.
- The Latest Update area pulls from News automatically.
The top urgent strip is controlled by campaigns marked as urgent. The black news ticker pulls from recent news items.
News & updates
- Go to News → Add News Item.
- Add a clear title, featured image and article content.
- Select the correct category, such as News, Events, Media, Tribunal or Social.
- Publish the item when ready.
The News page can have a featured story selected from the News page edit screen. News cards, filters and the ticker update automatically from published news items.
Campaigns
- Go to Campaigns → Add Campaign.
- Add the campaign title, featured image, main content and category.
- Use the campaign fields for location, event date and urgent banner settings.
- If a campaign should appear in the top urgent strip, tick the urgent option and complete the urgent text fields.
The Campaigns page lets you choose a current focus campaign. Campaign category buttons filter the cards on the page.
We Remember
- Go to We Remember → Add New.
- Add the person’s name, image, year and story content.
- Use respectful, accurate summaries and check spellings carefully before publishing.
The About page pulls a featured remembrance story and lists published remembrance cards automatically.
Support us
Edit the Support page from Pages → Support Us. The support cards, donation text, other ways to give, impact cards and share section are editable from the page fields.
One-off donations use WooCommerce donation products. Monthly donations use PayPal subscription buttons. If a monthly plan changes, update the relevant PayPal plan/container details in the Support page fields.
Shop
- Go to Products → Add New.
- Add the product title, price, description and product image.
- Assign a product category, such as Clothing, Accessories, Bags or Badges.
- Assign a collection if the product should appear in a Shop Collection.
- For variable products, add attributes such as size or colour and create variations.
The Shop page hero, featured product and rally gallery are edited from Pages → Shop. Orders are managed in WooCommerce → Orders.
SEO, accessibility and images
- Use clear, descriptive page and post titles.
- Add a short SEOPress title and meta description for important pages.
- Always add alt text to meaningful images.
- Use real headings in order: one main H1, then H2s and H3s.
- Avoid uploading huge images. Aim for around 1600–2400px wide for large hero images and under 500KB where possible.
- Check links and buttons before publishing.
Before publishing a big update
- Preview the page on desktop and mobile.
- Check all buttons and links.
- Check spelling, names, dates and locations.
- Confirm images have alt text.
- Clear cache if changes do not appear publicly.
For urgent campaign updates, check both the campaign page and the site-wide urgent strip after publishing.
